Summer Movie Season

Kasen Christensen, Reporter

With the month of May coming to a close after delivering several fantastic films such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the beloved sequel Top Gun: Maverick, it is time to set the sights forward towards a new month of promising cinema. June 2022 is stacked to the brim with the first round of summer blockbusters, and it is important to know which ones to look out for.

The first major film hitting theaters this June will be another continuation to the Jurassic Park story, with Jurassic World: Dominion premiering on June 10th. Set four years after the events of the previous film in the franchise, Dominion is set to raise the bar and break the standard many of its predecessors have followed. Dinosaurs now live and hunt freely in the human world, and the future of their coexistence is unclear. Alongside Chris Pratt and the other stars of the first two Jurassic World movies, Jurassic World: Dominion will also be bringing back some familiar faces from the original Jurassic Park movies. This exciting thriller is sure to have audiences on the edge of their seats and will be an exciting watch for most viewers.

The following weekend, Disney and Pixar’s highly anticipated Lightyear starring Chris Evans will come crashing into theaters. The film follows the legendary human space ranger known as Buzz Lightyear who is the inspiration for the iconic toy seen in the Toy Story franchise. Buzz will battle and blast his way through the galaxy and inevitably come face to face with the Evil Emperor Zurg. This film comes out on June 17th and will certainly be a must watch for audiences young and old.

A week after the release of Lightyear, two very different movies are set to be released on the same night. The first of these films is Elvis, an exploration of the life and music of the great Elvis Presley (played by Austin Butler) through the eyes of his manager Colonel Tom Parker. (Tom Hanks). The drama will contain some of the more realistic and saddening aspects of Presley’s life and therefore is a film that is not fit for audiences of all ages. The second film to release on June 24th is the intense horror film called The Black Phone starring Ethan Hawke. The film offers great promise with an interesting new approach to the classic horror abduction story. However, like most horror films, this movie will be darker and should be approached with caution as it is not intended for all audiences.
